I have heard from three or four customers this week that there is a decent afternoon bite in 15-25 feet of water over rock structure, brush piles, and rock piles receiving direct sunlight, using ½-3/4 oz. Football head jigs in brown/orange or Brown Purple with #11 Uncle Josh Pork Frogs in Brown or Black.
Fish the Jigs through the rock, wood, or brush as slowly as you can stand it and dead stick it for 30-40 count between hops.
Other folks have had luck fishing the same types of areas with dropshot worms, spider grubs, shaky head worms, heavy spinnerbaits, and jigging spoons.
Some big fish are always around for the swimbait guys but it is not a wide open bite. Last year I caught a lot of fish under these conditions off of 45 degree rock banks that faced the sun using LC pointers and LC Staysees.

Nicasio
Nicasio has kicked out some decent fish during sunny afternoons this week by slow rolling ½ oz – 1 oz White and Chartreuse spinnerbaits off of Rip Rap areas on the road and with baby brush hogs rigged on a ½ oz Carolina rig dragged through open water flats mid-lake. |

Clearlake
Bass fishing is still slow, even with the sunshine. Best bets are 45 degree angle banks, ledges and tulles using shaky head worms and dropshot worms. Guys are also getting fish on rip baits like the Luckycraft Staysee 90 in American Shad or Ghost Minnow, and Luckycraft Pointer 100’s in Ghose Minnow, American Shad, and Clearlake Hitch. |
