FISHING REPORTS: MAR 20, 2008
By JOSEPH HARGREAVES
Nicasio Lake

Monday afternoon was a good day to fish at Nicasio with several different guys reporting that they caught fish in several different areas on a combination of black/blue spinner baits, chartreuse/white chatter baits, brush hogs and double wide beavers rigged with brass and glass, 10” Gambler ribbon tail worms in purple/junebug and florida five-O, 5” and 6” Senkos in watermelon w/ red and green flake and black with blue flake, lback and blue jig and pig, and small to medium swimbaits like the 4” river 2 sea bottom walkers in chartreuse or baby bass, the fast sink sunfish from Castaic Platinum, and the Baitsmith Crappie. Biggest fish recorded was a 9 lb. 10 oz slug caught at an undisclosed location on the back side of the lake with a 10” Gambler ribbon tail worm in junebug.

One of the local kids caught a pair of good fish that he did not weigh but he did snap some pictures on his camera phone and while he assured me they were both well over 10 lbs I didn’t have the heart to tell him they looked like 4 something and a 6 something. I did thank him for releasing them unharmed and gave him a power pro hat, a bag of Gambler ugly otters and advice for him to get a scale. Both his fish were caught on the rip rap at the side of the roads on wacky rigged 5” Senkos. Most guys were pretty tight lipped but I always find it comforting because nobody clams up and holds out on you unless they are doing really good. Also, most of them had 2 or 3 things in common like spinnerbaits, brush hogs, big worms, and Senkos fished very slow and very shallow.
