FISHING REPORTS: JUNE 30, 2007
By JOSEPH HARGREAVES
Bon Tempe Lake
Guys are catching smallies up to 4 ½ lbs at Bon Tempe by the throwing dropshot worms, C-rigged worms and creatures, wacky rigged Senkos and trick worms, and luckycraft pointer 100s in ghost minnow. The fishing is not fast action, but the fish are quality and seem to be glued to wood cover and stumps more than anything else.

Alpine Lake
Alpine lake is kicking out some big bass for some of the locals who know how to target them (one of my customers who has been fishing Alpine for thirty years has caught a 7 lb, 9 lb, & 8 lb bass on seven inch Senkos in smoke with silver and black flakes). If you get there at first light you should be able to catch some topwater bass on ghost minnow gunfish poppers, ghost minnow sammys or spooks, and x-raps. Target the wood cover near the dam and make long casts as the water is very clear. When the sun comes up and the bass get nippy, be prepared to follow up on missed surface strikes with a throw back bait like 5” Senko, a super fluke, or a tube bait. My favorite “one-to-punch” right now is a ghost minnow gunfish and a smoke with black flake 5” Senko. The higher the sun gets the tighter these fish get to wood, so practice your casting accuracy. Once the sun is directly on the water it is hard to beat a dropshot finesse worm and a hard rip bait like the x-rap in ghost, the luckycraft pointer 100 in ghost minnow, and the luckycraft “staysee” 90 in ghost minnow.

Phoenix Lake
Bass fishing is slow and most guys are fishing bluegills, but fish are being caught on dropshot finesse creatures or worms during the day and ¼ ounce white spinner baits in the early morning and late evening.
