FISHING REPORTS: JULY 21, 2007
By JOSEPH HARGREAVES
Nicasio Lake

Has a great morning top water bite on baits like spooks, frogs, poppers, and buzzbaits. Target roads, break lines and ditches on the expansive shallow flats found on the western shore of the lake. Giving way to a great speed trap and plastic worm bite during the day with 20-30 fish days being quite possible.

Stafford Lake

Stafford is cranking out some great days with best bets being poppers, buzzbaits, and spooks in the morning and deep diving crankbaits, plastic worms, and jigs getting it done during the day. Not a lot of big fish, but 20-30 fish days are possible here as well.

Russian River/Healdsburg Area

This is my third pick this week with great smallmouth and largemouth bite in deeper calmer pools using small crankbaits, inline spinners, tiny topwater plugs and 3-4 inch plastic worms and grubs fished on small lead heads or on splitshot and dropshot rigs. Once you find fish you can expect to catch a lot of them but for the most part none will be bigger than 1.5-2 pounds.
