FISHING REPORTS: AUG 17, 2007
By JOSEPH HARGREAVES
Kent Lake

Guys fishing the back side are still slaying them this week on a combination of 7” Senkos, 6” Roboworms on a drop shot rig, and small jerk baits like the Jr. X-Rap. Best colors for the Senkos and Roboworms are Light Oxblood w/ Red Flake, Cinnamon w/ Purple Flake, Watermelon w/ Black Flake and Green Pumpkin w/ Black Flake. Best colors on the spinnerbaits are White, White/Chartreuse, Natural Bluegill, and Natural Shad.

Stafford Lake

Stafford takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Both the roadside golf course side is getting hammered by some pretty good sticks and a whole bunch of  hacks, but frogs, spinnerbaits, poppers, chatterbaits, shallow crankbaits, Senkos, beavers, Roboworms and jigs are still producing. However, even though almost anything will catch these fish the numbers and size is decreasing by the day..

Alpine Lake

Poppers and walking baits are producing well at Alpine in the mornings and evening and the poppers are working during the daytime if worked super tight to wood, weeds and shade. Best bets for the middle of the day are 4“-5” Senkos in Watermelon Black Flake, Green Pumpkin w/ Black Flake, Blue Pearl, and Natural Shad. Or 4” Robo FX series sculpins on a dropshot rig in Aaron’s Magic, Margarita Mutilator, Ayu, and Light Oxblood fished over rock structure or off the dam. Afternoon winds have delivered some big fish on spinnerbaits too. Best colors are White, White Chartreuse, or Natural Bluegill.

Phoenix Lake

Phoenix Lake is very slow right now with best bets being 3” Robo leaches in Aaron’s Magic or 3” grubs in salt and pepper or smoke w/ Black and Red flake. A handful of bigger fish have been caught at dawn using super slow wake baits and junior size trout swimbaits.

Nicasio Lake

Nicasio is still kicking out great numbers of fish in the 1-3 lb range on crankbaits and chatterbaits as well as spinnerbaits when it’s windy and Senkos, brush hogs, and Roboworms kicking out great numbers mid day. Almost all of the action is on the backside or at the dam.
